The Tom Quilty Gold Cup Endurance Ride had humble beginnings as a tribute to a friend.

Organised by the legendary RM Williams through the Hawksbury district in NSW in 1966, to honour Thomas John Quilty.

A colourful character, Mr Quilty was a respected horseman, bush poet and cattleman in Western Australia, and the man whom RM Williams owed his establishment in the cattle industry.

The Gold Cup (now located in the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Queensland, was created from a $1,000 donation by Tom Quilty, as the prize for the winner of the event.
